Porsche 944 No High Idle, Fluctuations

Questions and Answers Porsche 944 No High Idle, Fluctuations Q. Thank you Mr. Ciulla, this helped a lot I have gotten most of the air out so far. Toyota Cressida Air In Cooling System I also have a 1985 Porsche 944 normally aspirated. I am currently driving the vehicle in winter. I believe, based on the testimony of the previous owners, this may be the first winter. Anyway I will be storing it away very soon. I have noticed that on mornings the choke doesn't engage, there is no increase in idle. The car "hunts" until it is warmed up. During normal driving range the idle speed is at 1,100 rpm, which seems a little high seeing that it is manual shift and it is making it harder on driveability. Are the two related to the choke and normal idle speed? It also hunts/vibrates on idle even after its warm. It seems to fluctuate between 950 rpm to 1,100 rpm around there. Is there a way to remove or clean or bypass the valve responsible for the choke? Bare in mind I will attempt this on my own. My experience involves changing water pumps, doing tuneups, fuel pumps/filters/oil filters, minor stuff. Thanks... A. Troubleshooting a Porsche Digital Motor Electronics (DME) system can be difficult without the proper equipment. However there are some basic things you can check that may be the cause of the idle speed problems. The first thing would be checking for vacuum leaks. This is the most common cause of idle speed problems. Check all the vacuum lines for cracks, breaks and that they are properly routed and connected. Remove each line, one at a time, and check them for rub through. The next thing to check is the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. Unplug the ECT connector and measure the resistance of the sensor. Here is a chart for the proper values and the temperatures. Then you should check the EGR valve. Unplug it and see if the idle returns to normal. If not, try removing it and check that it moves freely and is sealing. If not, replace it. Also checking fuel pressure and volume is a good idea as well. This will tell you if the fuel pump is supplying the proper pressure and volume of fuel the engine needs.
